There are a couple of benefits to masturbation. First, masturbation provides a person with a great deal of sexual pleasure. Since this sexual pleasure can be obtained without the need for marriage, masturbation is popular amongst young people. In addition, since this sexual pleasure can be obtained without the need of a bothersome relationship, masturbation is popular amongst many older singles.

Second, masturbation is often used as a stress reliever. Many people masturbate when they are sexually frustrated, discouraged, or depressed. In fact, masturbation is often used as a "coping" tool. Not only does this provide a person with a temporary from their current situation, it provides them a satisfying emotional release.

Almost everyone in their post puberty years has experimented with masturbation at one time or another. In addition, it is widely accepted in many circles. Yet, despite its wide acceptance and benefits, masturbation is not without its problems and dangers. Does this mean masturbation is a sin? No, we cannot call masturbation a sin simply because it can cause significant problems. We must look to the bible to see if it is a sin. Since the Bible does not talk about masturbation one way or another, we cannot definitively say that it is or isn't a sin.

Like most teens, I struggled with the normal guilt and frustrations associated with masturbation. Since I didn't get married until I was thirty-five years old, I struggled with these issues more than most people.

A few months before I got married I decided to quit masturbating. Although it was difficult, I was successful. Much to my surprise, however, I started masturbating again sometime after I got married. I didn't start masturbating again because my sexual needs weren't being met. Rather, I started masturbating again because I was addicted to it. Most people don't realize that masturbation is highly addictive. This is the reason why a large percentage of married people (about 70%) masturbate on a regular basis.

I would not have been too concerned about the reappearance of this old habit except for the numerous problems associated with this behavior. Most people are not aware of the numerous problems caused by masturbation. I literally tried to stop masturbating dozens of times, but each attempt was met with dismal failure. Finally, I discovered the secret of success and it's been several years since I've masturbated. As a result of my struggle, I've written several chapters concerning this subject. They are:

• Is Masturbation a Sin?
• The Guilt of Masturbation
• The Problems and Dangers of Masturbation
• Wet Dreams, Sex Dreams, and Nocturnal Orgasms
• Girls and Masturbation
• Masturbation Within the Marriage
• Gaining Control Over Masturbation

All of these chapters can be found in my new book (Sexual Desires: The The Poison and Energy Drink of Great Relationships). The table of contents of the book can be found below.
